Cabrera earned a PGA Tour-sanctioned tournament victory Sunday at the inaugural James Hardie Pro Football Hall of Fame Invitational in Boca Raton, Fla. for the first time since he got out of jail in 2023. Cabrera, who won the 2007 U.S. Open and 2009 Masters, had been imprisoned for domestic violence charges in his native Argentina.
Returning to the annual Champions Dinner preceding the Masters is the type of event ‘El Pato’, who on Monday claimed his first Champions Tour trophy since his release from jail, dreamed of through the long hours at night in Brazilian and Argentinian prisons earlier this decade.
SAN ANTONIO — Brian Harman handled the wind and the chill Sunday with a pair of key birdies on the back nine Sunday in the Valero Texas Open, closing with a 3-over 75 for a three-shot victory, his first title since the 2023 British Open.
Angel Cabrera hasn’t played in the Masters since 2019 due to a conviction for domestic assault and intimidation of two former partners. Cabrera, the 2009 Masters champion, spent 30 months in jail in Brazil and Argentina and was released in August of 2023.
Whatever is on the menu for the Champions Dinner at the Masters, you can be sure that the bitter taste of disgust will linger.
