After parting ways with Mike McCarthy following five seasons without a playoff run, owner Jerry Jones spoke with Sanders about the coaching opening. Jordan Schultz of FOX Sports was first to report the news, calling Coach Prime a “top candidate.”

After the Dallas Cowboys let former head coach Mike McCarthy’s contract expire today, many began to speculate on who would get an interview for one of the most notorious roles in the NFL. Would it be former Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll?

Jerry Jones once famously said 500 coaches could have won Super Bowls with those early 1990s Dallas Cowboys teams. The owner and general manager has made six hires since winning two Super Bowls with Jimmy Johnson and one with Barry Switzer. None that have followed have been able to get the Cowboys past the divisional round of the playoffs.
