Rain lashed Delhi-NCR throughout Friday with the city recording its highest December rainfall in the last 15 years and the mercury dropping sharply to 14.6 degree celsius, the weather department said.

The IMD noted that the capital's highest-ever single-day December rainfall was recorded on December 3, 1923, at 75.7 mm

The city received 41.2 mm of rain between 8.30 am on Friday and 8.30 am on Saturday. This is the highest rain seen in Delhi in 24 hours in December since 1923, when 75.7 mm of rain was recorded on December 3. December this year has also seen the most amount of rain since 1997 when 71.8 mm of rain was seen in the month.

The Indian National Capital saw lashes of rain throughout Friday (Dec 27), recording 41.2 mm of rainfall in the past 24 hours up to 8:30 am on Saturday (Dec 28), making it the highest single-day December rainfall in the past 101 years,

Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) dropped to the “moderate” category, measuring 164 on Friday morning, a sharp decline from the hazardous 300+ levels recorded earlier this week.

Incessant rains continued to lash parts of Delhi in the early hours of Saturday. Heavy rainfall and gusty winds led to the uprooting of trees in several areas of the national capital. In Sector-9, RK Puram,
