Update: 5% containment achieved for Gifford Fire in San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara County
Gifford Fire initially started 3:44 p.m. Aug. 1 in San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara County, California. Since its discovery 27 hours ago, it has burned 30,519 acres. By Saturday evening, the fire crew effectively contained 5% of this fire. The blaze's cause remains under investigation.
Wildfire burning in Santa Barbara County scorches over 30,000 acres
SANTA BARBARA COUNTY (KABC) -- Firefighters are trying to gain control of the Gifford Fire in Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties. The blaze is just 5% percent contained and has nearly tripled in size since Saturday. It has scorched more than 30,000 acres in Los Padres National Forest.
The blaze injured three people, put hundreds under evacuation orders and threatened 460 structures, officials said.
