Public health officials have confirmed the first human case of H5N1 bird flu in Los Angeles County this year. A statement released on Monday said that the infected person, an adult, was exposed to infected livestock while at a worksite.

The case comes less than a week after Gov. Gavin Newsom called a state of emergency over the spread of bird flu virus in the state.

A pet food company in Oregon has issued a voluntary recall of its raw and frozen products, as state officials investigate the bird flu death of a cat that they linked to its food. The big picture: Northwest Naturals' recall of its 2lb Feline Turkey Recipe brand also prompted Los Angeles County health officials to warn pet owners not to feed their animals raw food.
