Airbus sealed a landmark order for 40 A220 jets from Polish national carrier LOT on Monday, marking the airline’s largest-ever investment and signalling a broader reset in political ties between Poland and France.
Embraer has signalled that it believes the LOT selection of the Airbus A220 over its E2 regional jets was influenced by political considerations. LOT has chosen to take 40 A220s - a mix of -100s and -300s - to replace its Embraer fleet,
LOT said the A220s will gradually replace its existing regional aircraft fleet, which primarily comprises Embraer E1s. Fijoł said LOT’s E2s will “stay for as long as possible,” but will ultimately also be replaced.
