Escaped Georgia inmate Timothy Shane is back in custody after a days-long multi-agency manhunt that stretched across Rockdale, Newton, and Henry counties, according to the Newton County Sheriff's Office.

Timothy Shane was re-captured nearly 40 miles from Grady Hospital in an abandoned home in Covington after a two-day manhunt.

The inmate had been taken to a hospital in Atlanta on Sunday evening, and escaped around 1 a.m. Monday, driving off in a SUV that had been parked nearby. Shane then crashed and left the car, taking the Glock handgun him, authorities said.
