It was a defining moment in weight-loss management after an FDA-approved Wegovy pill is now available and provides another, more affordable option to help people lose weight.

The FDA-approved weight loss drug offers an oral alternative to invasive injections with similar effectiveness.

Drugmaker Novo Nordisk said the prescription medicine can be found at a range of pharmacies, including CVS and Costco, as well as some telehealth providers.

In coming weeks, Wegovy pill will be available in four doses: a starter dose of 1.5 mg, as well as 4 mg, 9 mg, and 25 mg. As with injectable Wegovy, most patients will start with the lowest dose and gradually ramp up their dosage over a period of months until they reach the maximum dose, which they will continue to maintain their new weight.

Americans can now purchase the starter dose of blockbuster weight-loss drug Wegovy as a pill, drug maker Novo Nordisk announced Monday. Other strengths will be available as pills by the end of the week.

The convenience and lower cost of the oral pill may be critical to some patients, which could expand the market, improve adherence and boost long-term outcomes.
