Lurie Children’s Hospital will continue to provide hormone therapy and puberty blockers, a hospital spokesperson confirmed, and specifically noted that mental health care will also continue as part of the hospital’s gender care program.

Chicago's largest children's hospital is pausing gender-affirming surgeries for minors after President Trump's executive order called for an end to surgeries and chemical interventions for transgender people under the age of 19.

The hospital's decision comes after last month's executive order aiming to cut federal funding from providers offering gender-affirming care.

A statement from the hospital on Wednesday morning said it could only offer behavioral health services and “supportive care” to transgender patients.

After three years on the wait list, Children’s canceled the 16-year-old's surgery hours before it was scheduled. "Losing eligibility would jeopardize care for our patients across the region," Children’s explained.
