Washington — U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff and U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee are heading to Gaza on Friday to survey food and aid distribution sites and meet with people living there, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said.

Over a thousand Palestinians have been killed at food distribution sites since May, fuelling international outcry.

U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff was expected to arrive in Israel in a bid to salvage Gaza ceasefire talks and tackle a humanitarian crisis in the Palestinian enclave, where a global hunger monitor has warned that famine was unfolding.
