Warriors Wire on MSNWarriors' Stephen Curry gives coy response over potential Al Horford additionHorford's addition would give the Warriors a significant boost on the defensive side of the floor. The veteran big man still ranks highly among centers for multiple defensive metrics. Furthermore, he will provide ample floor spacing for Curry and Co. This past season, Horford shot the rock at a 36.3% clip from deep on 5.2 attempts per game.
Horford is reportedly considering offers from the Warriors and Lakers, while the Nuggets are also rumored to have interest. His departure would represent another hit to the Celtics’ frontcourt, which has already lost Kornet to San Antonio in free agency and Kristaps Porzingis via trade.
Al Horford is set to enter his 19th season in the NBA next season. For the last four seasons, he has been playing for the Boston Celtics, where he has achieved great success, including winning the NBA Championship in 2024, the first of his career. Last season with the Celtics, Horford averaged 9.0 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game.
Celtics president of basketball operations Brad Stevens said it’s “highly unlikely” that the 39-year-old center will return to Boston when asked at a Tuesday press conference.
Horford, a five-time All-Star, is an excellent defender and shot over 39% from 3 since he returned to the Celtics in 2022. He'd be a good fit with Curry and the Warriors, who saw big man Kevon Looney leave for the New Orleans Pelicans after 10 seasons with Golden State.
Celtics center Al Horford became a free agent on Monday. Could the Warriors sign him away from Boston as they pursue a stretch center?
