The San Diego Chargers selected Domres in the first-round of the 1969 NFL Draft as the ninth overall pick. The Baltimore Colts signed Domres in 1972 where he became the successor to Hall of Fame quarterback Johnny Unitas. Domres also played for the San Francisco 49ers and New York Jets before retiring from football in 1978.
