European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen is set to meet U.S. President Donald Trump on Sunday to clinch a trade deal for Europe that would likely see a 15% baseline tariff on most EU goods,

EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen headed to Scotland on Saturday ahead of a meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump on Sunday afternoon, commission spokespeople said, as EU officials said the two sides were nearing a trade agreement.

A federal appeals court will soon hear oral arguments in a high-profile lawsuit challenging Trump's authority to impose sweeping "reciprocal" tariffs. The case is the furthest along of more than half a dozen federal cases targeting Trump's imposition of tariffs using an emergency-powers law known as IEEPA.

A slew of countries will face steep levies, including a 50% tariff on imports from Brazil and a 30% tariff on the European Union.

Trump’s tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum, autos and goods not covered by the U.S.-Mexico-Canada trade agreement have upended the status quo. He has threatened to raise some of those tariffs to 35 percent by Aug. 1. Canada sends more than 75 percent of its exports to the U.S.
