Area school districts might have been impacted by the cyberattack of a nationwide education software cloud-based platform called PowerSchool, used to store sensitive student data.

Westerville City Schools confirmed personal student info was accessed in PowerSchool breach. Unclear if several more central Ohio districts affected.

In an FAQ obtained by TechCrunch, PowerSchool confirms it negotiated with the threat actors responsible for the breach.

State law requires school districts in Connecticut to notify parents and staff of a data breach within 48 hours. However, PowerSchool didn't notify districts in the state of the Dec. 28 attack until Tuesday and Wednesday of this week, school officials have said.

New Trier said the data that was accessed included names and school ID numbers. No current students' Social Security numbers were accessed, but some former students' were.

PowerSchool, a major education software company, announced a security breach on Tuesday, possibly affecting schools across the nation with data leaks.

School officials learned of the “potential cybersecurity incident” on Tuesday, Needham Public Schools Superintendent Dan Gutekanst said in a statement.
