Nearly every part of the country has been issued one or several yellow weather warning by the Met Office for between Monday and Thursday, where conditions will be severe. The forecast spells a turbulent New Years’ Eve for many as the bad weather is set to travel southwards across the country between December 31 and January 1.

The Met Office has warned up to 7cm of snow could fall in parts of Nottinghamshire this weekend. It has now upgraded its weather warning from yellow to amber and said there could be 'persistent and heavy' snow on Saturday, January 4 and Sunday, January 5.

The Met Office has announced an Amber snow and ice alert for East Midlands, North East England, North West England, West Midlands and Yorkshire and Humber across the UK for Saturday and Sunday. Snow will blanket the region. The wintry showers are predicted to arrive across the areas on Saturday at around 9pm, and it will persist until Sunday 11pm.

An amber warning for snow and ice has now been issued for North Wales over the weekend. The Met Office warning comes into effect at 6pm on Saturday and lasts until 12pm on Sunday, covering Wrexham, Flintshire, Denbighshire, Conwy and Gwynedd.

The Met Office has issued two rare amber warnings for snow and ice over almost all of England this weekend. The warnings cover much of the north of England and the midlands with the Met Office saying that 3-7cm of snow was possible in large areas.

By 6pm, between 0.5mm and 4mm of snow will fall in the Painswick area. Similar amounts will then fall in Dursley and Cheltenham at 7pm. Most of the county will then see between 0.5mm and 4mm of snow at 8pm as a band shifts across Gloucestershire. The snow will then continue to fall until 11pm.

Weather warnings for snow and ice for Saturday and Sunday have been increased to amber, with a yellow warning in place in Scotland on Monday morning. Up to to 30-40cm of snow will be possible in parts of northern England, the Met Office has said, warning of "significant accumulations".

Merseyside has been hit with a double weather warning as snow and freezing rain are predicted for large parts of the country this weekend. Stranded vehicles, along with delays or cancellations in rail and air travel, are expected as the UK faces a week of wintry conditions, the Met Office has reported.

A yellow weather warning for snow in Yorkshire over the weekend has been upgraded to 'Amber'. The warning - cranked up just under 34 hours before the warning comes into play from 9pm on Saturday (January 4) evening - is set to last until midnight on Sunday, January 5.
