“Tuck Everlasting” gives us plenty of creepiness but no real romance. If the Dracula legend is all plush red velvet, “Tuck Everlasting” is just a scrap of calico, bleached to a dry crispness.
Set in 1914, the film initially looks like a warm children's period drama. But "Tuck Everlasting" is a 'tweener of a movie, as awkward as those first zigzaggy years of adolescence.
“Tuck Everlasting,” however, is more whimsical than it is broad slapstick, and Nicholaw is better with the latter. As a result, the performances in “Tuck” come off as merely Broadway generic.
