Melting cables are, once again, affecting high-end NVIDIA graphics cards, as a small selection of disgruntled GeForce RTX 5090 Founders Edition buyers and content creators take to social media to report unreasonably high temperatures radiating from its 600W connector.

Last week, RTX 5090 cards started dying after Nvidia’s driver update. More recently, one Reddit user named /u/ivan6953 reported in the Nvidia subreddit that the power connector on his RTX 5090 had melted while playing Battlefield V.

According to u/Ambitious_Ladder1320, their RTX 5080 GPU flashed a red light while they were using their PC, which meant that a pin wasn’t seated properly. The user claimed that both GPU and CPU cables were connected properly, but to troubleshoot the issue, they switched off their computer and reconnected the GPU cable.

High performance PC builder Falcon Northwest has taken to X to say that it has tested "many" RTX 5090 FE cards, but has been unable to repeat der8auer's findings. Falcon Northwest's thermal images show much more balanced loading on the power cables wires,
