The Justice Department on Wednesday began dismantling one of the Biden administration’s most controversial legacy projects, abandoning federal consent decrees aimed at imposing burdensome oversight of local police departments in Minneapolis and Louisville.

Mayor Craig Greenberg unveiled a plan titled "Louisville's consent decree," which will guide police reforms in the absence of a federal agreement.

The Justice Department is working toward dropping reform agreements with police departments in Minneapolis and Louisville, Ky., after killings of Breonna Taylor and George Floyd in those cities drew national attention.
