Meta will cut around 10 per cent of its global workforce by May 20, according to an internal memo sent by its chief people officer Janelle Gale, confirming weeks of speculation about layoffs at the social media group.
The tech giant said in an internal memo on Thursday that the planned dismissals will allow it to operate more efficiently while it increases AI spending.
Meta is cutting roughly 10% of its staff, totaling about 8,000 employees, to shore up its finances for more spending on artificial intelligence. In a memo sent to staff, the company said the move was intended to “run the company more efficiently and to allow us to offset the other investments we’re making.
