President Donald Trump said on Monday the United States is ready to help India and Pakistan in the wake of a ceasefire agreement that he says his administration helped broker.

Donald Trump announced that, thanks to U.S. mediation, a nuclear conflict between India and Pakistan was avoided. The U.S. President emphasized that threats to halt trade with both countries played a key role.

India also has a long-standing policy of refusing to allow foreign mediation when it comes to the status of Muslim-majority Kashmir - a disputed region claimed by both India and Pakistan in its entirety - which has been at the center of the latest conflict with Pakistan and which India regards as a strictly internal matter.
