A second person has died of West Nile virus this summer in South Dakota, according to the state Department of Health's dashboard.

A second death from the West Nile virus (WNV) has been reported in South Dakota. According to a press release from the South Dakota Department of Health (SDDOH), there are now 16 human cases of West Nile in South Dakota,

Fourteen human cases of West Nile virus, including three cases requiring hospitalization, have been reported in the state this summer. Cases have been identified in nine counties: Cass, Burleigh, Hettinger, McLean, Mercer, Richland, Morton, Kidder and Stutsman. Most cases have been reported since mid-July, with cases nearly doubling this week.
