The Senate has voted to confirm Lori Chavez-DeRemer as U.S. labor secretary. The Cabinet position puts her in charge of enforcing federally mandated worker rights and protections at a time when the White House is trying to eliminate thousands of government employees.

As a member of Congress, Chavez-DeRemer co-sponsored the Protecting the Right to Organize Act (PRO Act) which would have made it much easier for unions to gain members and ban right to work laws which protect workers from being forced into a union.

While in Congress, Ms. Chavez-DeRemer was a co-sponsor of the Protecting the Right to Organize Act, known as the PRO Act, a sweeping labor bill that sought to strengthen collective bargaining rights.

Oregon’s Lori Chavez-DeRemer was confirmed by the Senate as U.S. labor secretary on Monday. Her cabinet appointment represents a reversal of fortune for the Happy Valley business owner who in November lost a reelection bid after one term representing Oregon’s 5th Congressional District.

In a 66-30 vote, 15 Democratic senators signaled support for President Trump’s pick, as Chavez-DeRemer advanced to a final vote on her nomination – which is scheduled to take place on Monday.

After Monday’s vote, Trump will have his entire formal Cabinet confirmed by the Senate a week before his predecessor.

The U.S. Senate on Monday confirmed Lori Chavez-DeRemer as President Donald Trump’s Labor secretary, and now 21 out of his 22 Cabinet picks have been confirmed. Rep. Elise Stefanik’s nomination to serve as ambassador to the United Nations is the only Cabinet-level position yet to be confirmed.
