Rescuers are searching for 19 people missing in severe flooding in Nepal that swept away a key bridge connecting the country with China

A teenage Australian surfer feared lost at sea was rescued after spending the night on an uninhabited island miles offshore, officials and local media said.

The claim circulated as rescuers searched for people missing from Camp Mystic, a Christian girls summer camp on the banks of the Guadalupe River.

"While the man was stuck in the glacier ice, his faithful companion, a small chihuahua, was left at the edge of the crevasse," Air Zermatt said, adding rescuers were then able to "locate the exact site of the accident" and retrieve the hiker from the crevasse.

The 30-year-old hiker from Danbury, Connecticut, was hiking the Great Gulf Trail in Thompson and Meserve’s Purchase on July 5 when she grew exhausted and took some falls, suffering minor injuries, the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department said in a news release.
