The Supreme Court temporarily blocked the Trump administration from deporting a group of Venezuelans detained in Texas, granting them a reprieve from being imminently sent to a notorious prison in El Salvador.

The Supreme Court early Saturday morning paused the deportation of immigrants potentially subject to the Alien Enemies Act, freezing action in a fast-developing case involving a group of immigrants in Texas who say the Trump administration was working to remove them.

In a series of lawsuits, plaintiffs including 22 Democratic state attorneys general, immigrant rights advocates and some expectant mothers argued that Trump's order violates a right enshrined in the U.

The Supreme Court on Thursday agreed to hear oral arguments over President Donald Trump’s request to enforce a plan to end birthright citizenship against all but a handful of individuals, though it deferred a request from the administration that would have allowed it to implement its plan immediately.

Trump's lawyers have urged the high court to allow a ban on birthright citizenship to take effect in parts of the country.
