Meteorologist Ken South said on X, Tuesday: "Chances are increasing that a tropical system will develop in the NE Gulf near Florida in the next few days. There is now a 40-percent, medium chance of development. The next name on the Atlantic list this year is 'Chantal.'"

There's now a 40% chance for a tropical or subtropical depression forming near Florida by the Fourth of July holiday weekend.

Barry broke up around 4 a.m. Monday about 100 miles northwest of Tampico, Mexico, near where the storm had made landfall about six hours earlier.
