A bitter feud is escalating between Republican Sen. Rand Paul and Donald Trump’s top border official, injecting uncertainty into Congress’s attempt to pass the administration’s signature policy bill this month.

Paul has kept that independent streak, nevertheless. But in Trump’s first term, it didn’t seem to affect his relationship with the president. Paul was often seen as a counterweight to Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) on foreign policy among Trump’s friends on Capitol Hill.

President Donald Trump viciously attacked Senator Rand Paul to his face during the 2016 Republican Primary debates, claiming that he has donated vast amounts of money to the U.S. Senator from Kentucky.

Conway mocked the GOP senator’s sudden loss of respect for Trump, pointing out that past controversies—including four criminal indictments, two impeachments, and Trump’s defense of the Jan. 6 insurrection—had not affected Paul’s support.

The military parade is expected to feature over 6,000 soldiers and a variety of military equipment, but it's drawn criticism from some, including the Kentucky senator.
