Today we visited Dachau Concentration Camp, the first Nazi concentration camp established in Germany. It opened in March 1933 and operated until it was liberated by the U.S. Army’s 42nd Infantry Division on April 29, 1945. During those 12 years, more than 200,000 prisoners passed through its gates. An estimated 40,000 people died at Dachau — victims of execution, starvation, disease, and inhumane treatment.
